Damian Iorio, Dirigent (f. 1972)

Damian Iorio blev født i 1972 i London i en familie med professionelle musikere. Han er britisk og italiensk statsborger. Han begyndte at spille violin som 4-årig og har studeret i England og USA. Han har siden studeret direktion ved St Petersborg musikkonservatorium i Rusland. I 1997 vandt han British Reserve Insurance Conducting prize og i 1999 vandt han andenpræmie i "The 6th Leeds Conductors' Competition" i England.

Damian Iorio dirigerer jævnligt i Skandinavien, Rusland og andre steder i Europa. Han har også arbejdet som assisterende dirigent for Yuri Termikanov. Han har blandt andet dirigeret Radiosymfoniorkestret, Det danske kammerorkester, English Northern Phiharmonia, Roms filharmoniske Orkester, Odense symfoniorkester, Aalborg symfoniorkester og Sønderjyllands symfoniorkester. Endvidere har han arbejdet med Den norske Opera. Iorio har deltaget i mange europæiske musikfestivaler, herunder Bratislava-festivalen, Haydn-festivalen ved Esterhazy slot, Musical Olympus Festival i St. Petersborg samt i Tivoli. 

Fra oktober 1999 har Iorio været chefdirigent ved det murmanske statskammerorkester i Rusland og gav mange koncerter i Murmansk, Barents-området, andre steder i Rusland samt Skandinavien. Han er også jævnligt gæstedirigent for St. Petersborg Camerata og Det novosibirske Statsorkester.

I december 2001 har Iorio stået for adskillige opførelser af Benjamin Brittens opera "The Turn of the Screw" i St. Petersborg og Novosibirsk. Dette har været et højt estimeret og banebrydende projekt, som han har gennemført sammen med British Council i Rusland. Straks efter dette projekt blev Iorio engageret af St Petersborg filharmoniske Orkester for sæsonen 2002/2003.

Af andre forestående engagementer kan nævnes koncerter i Danmark med Sønderjyllands symfoniorkester samt en opsætning af Donizettis "Maria Stuart" med Den nordjyske Opera.

Damian Iorio was born in 1972 in London. He studied violin in the UK and the USA, and then went on to study conducting at the St. Petersburg State Music Conservatory in Russia. In 1997 he won the British Reserve Insurance Conducting Prize, and in 1999 he won Second Prize in the 6th Leeds Conductors' Competition in England. 

Damian Iorio conducts regularly in Europe, Scandinavia and Russia. He has also worked as Assistant Conductor to Yuri Temirkanov. Among the orchestras he has conducted are the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Danish Chamber Orchestra, English Northern Philharmonia, Orchestra Philharmonia di Roma, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra. Other engagements include work with the Norwegian National Opera (Den Norske Opera). Iorio has participated in many European festivals, including Bratislava Festival, the Haydn Festival at Esterhazy Palace, Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg and Tivoli in Copenhagen. 

Since October 1999 Iorio has been Chief Conductor of Murmansk State Chamber Orchestra in Russia. The orchestra performs not only in the Murmansk and Barents Region, but also frequently tours Russia and Scandinavia. He is also a regular guest conductor of St. Petersburg Camerata and Novosibirsk State Philharmonic Orchestra.

In December 2001 Iorio gave several performances of Benjamin Britten's opera "The Turn of the Screw" in St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. This was a highly acclaimed groundbreaking project that he organised with the British Council in Russia. Following the success of this project, Iorio was immediately engaged by the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra for the season 2002//2003. 

Future engagements also include concerts in Denmark with Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra, as well a production of Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" with the Nordjyske Opera Company.
