Cellisten Niels Ullner er født i København. Uddannet hos Asger Lund Christiansen samt videre studier hos Pierre Fournier, William Pleeth og Mstislav Rostropovitj. Debutkoncert 1981 i København.
Modtaget bl.a. Jacob Gades legat, Musikanmelderringens Kunstnerpris og Breuning-Baches Mindelegat.
1977-85 ansat i Danmarks Radios Symfoniorkester. Siden 1985 1. solocellist i Malmö Symfoniorkester.
Niels Ullner har siden 1986 undervist ved musikkonservatoriet i København, Århus, Odense og Malmö. Siden 2000 fast tilknyttet Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium som docent. Har desuden undervist ved en lang række musikstævner samt deltaget i juryarbejde på internationalt plan
Niels Ullner har optrådt over det meste af Europa samt Japan og på Cuba som solist og kammermusiker. Har været medlem af en række kammerensembler, hvoraf kan nævnes Den Danske Kvartet, Musica Danica samt duosamarbejde med pianisten Anne Øland.
I 1995 blev han nomineret til en Grammy i Sverige for sin CD-indspilning af Gösta Nystroems Sinfonia Concertante sammen med Malmö Symfoniorkester og dirigenten Paavo Järvi.
Niels Ullner spiller på et mesterinstrument, bygget i Cremona 1667 af Francesco Ruggieri, købt af Malmö Symfoniorkester i 1992.
Med Amatørsymfonikerne har Niels Ullner opført Dvoraks cellokoncert i 1977 og 2004 samt i 1984 Tjaikovskijs Rokoko-variationer.

The cellist Niels Ullner was born 1956 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was educated by the Danish cellist Asger Lund Christiansen and completed his studies with Pierre Fournier, William Pleeth and Mstislav Rostropovich. Debut recital in Copenhagen 1981.
Awarded the Jacob Gade Prize, Artist Prize of the Danish Music Critics, Memorial Prize of the Breuning-Bache String Quartet.
Member of the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 1985. Since then employed as principal cellist of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra (Sweden).
Since 1986 Niels Ullner taught at the Music Academies in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and Malmö. From 2000 he is permanently attached to the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, Denmark. Furthermore he has been coaching in numerous international music courses and took part in international juries.
Niels Ullner performed as a sololist or chamber musician over most of Europe, Japan and Cuba. He has been a member of several chamber music groups like The Danish String Quartet, Musica Danica and duo partnership with the Danish pianist, Anne Øland.
1995 he was nominated for a Swedish Grammy for his recording of the Sinfonia Concertante for cello and orchestra by Gösta Bystroem with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paavo Järvi.
Niels Ullner plays a master instrument built in Cremona 1667 by Francesco Ruggiero, which was purchased by Malmö Symphony Orchestra 1992.
