Ole Schmidt, dirigent

Ole Schmidt blev født i 1928 i København. Han studerede komposition, klaver og direktion ved Det kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium og fortsatte sin uddannelse som dirigent hos bl. a. Rafael kubelik og Sergiu Celibidache.

Ole Schmidt har dirigeret et betydeligt antal kendte orkestre i såvel Danmark som i udlandet, heriblandt London Symphony Orchestra, med hvem han har indspillet alle Carl Nielsens 6 symfonier.

Ole Schmidt er stærkt interesseret i nutidig musik og har dirigeret mange førsteopførelser. Sideløbende hermed har han komponeret en lang række værker inden for flere genrer, eksempelvis for symfoniorkester, for stumfilm og for radio og TV.

Ole Schmidt har modtaget Carl Nielsen Prisen.

Ole Schmidt was born in Copenhagen in 1928. He studied composition, piano and conduction at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory an continued his education as a conductor at Rafael Kubelik and Sergiu Celibidache among others.

Ole Schmidt has conducted quite a number of well-known orchestraes both in Denmark and abroad, among these London Symphony Orchestra with whom he has recorded all the 6 symphonies by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen.

Ole Schmidt is very interested in contemporary music and has conducted many first performances. Furthermore he has composed quite a number of works within several genres, such as symphonies, silent films and for radio and TV.

Ole Schmidt has received the Carl Nielsen Prize.
