Tradition and modernity characterize Amatørsymfonikerne

We play both the great classics and exciting newer compositions with outstanding soloists and talented conductors. The orchestra has about 70 members who are trained, amateur musicians.

We meet every Tuesday evening in Holte and hold 5-8 different concerts a year in Denmark as well as abroad.

The orchestra is vibrant and dynamic and consists of dedicated musicians of all ages, who love to play. The orchestra is known for a good, harmonic sound. This is partly due to our dedicated members – some have even been with the orchestra from the start! But we evolve continuously with a steady influx of new talented amateur musicians. Many of the best professional Danish musicians, soloists and conductors have had their first orchestral experience in Amatørsymfonikerne. Several of the orchestra members are foreigners, staying for a shorter or longer period in Denmark, who love to play music with others at a highly qualified level.

Repertoire

Our repertoire is broad and ranges from the Viennese classical to contemporary music. The emphasis is on works for large casts, for example, the great romantic works and Carl Nielsens symphonies, but the orchestra has also collaborated with choirs for performances of major choral works, including Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Gades Elverskud and Verdi’s Requiem.

Several composers have written works especially for the orchestra – including Poul Ruders, Anders Koppel and Benjamin de Murashkin.

You can see an overview of Amatørsymfonikernes repertoire at concerts from 1979 until today.
